I get asked a lot about the jewelry I use and carry so I thought I’d create a whole page dedicated to answering frequently asked jewelry questions as well as give out some general info.
What type of metal is your starter jewelry made of?
The most common type of metal I use for starter jewelry is going to be implant grade titanium. I do carry and can use other metals as well, such as 14k gold, platinum (preorder on request), niobium, and implant grade steel (more on this further down). I also carry 18k gold jewelry, however it is much softer than 14k and so it isn’t suitable for starter jewelry.
Why don’t you use “surgical steel“?
Surgical steel is a very broad designation for jewelry that may or may not be alloyed with other metals that can cause allergic reactions in a lot of the population. There are only a few biocompatible options for steel, which are generally referred to as Implant grade (ASTM F-138 compliant or ISO 5832-1, ISO 10993-(6,10,or 11) compliant). Many of the “surgical steel” options for body jewelry do not meet these standards and I prefer not to take any chances with my clients well being.
What Is threadless, internally threaded jewelry and why don’t you use externally threaded jewelry?
In the state of Georgia we are required to use threadless or internally threaded jewelry, anyone using externally threaded jewelry isn’t abiding by regulations.
Threadless jewelry and internally threaded jewelry are going to do less overall damage during insertion and removal as well as be better quality options.
Can I start with a big fancy decorative piece of jewelry?
While there are cases where I would say yes, for the majority of clients our first goal is to get a piercing to heal and the big extravagant pieces of jewelry aren’t usually the best choice for healing purposes. I promise I want to put the show stopping jewelry in your piercings and help you bring your dreams to life…. However, I want you to have a well healed piercing first and foremos!

Jewelry changes, jewelry issues, and overall checkups. what can you expect when stopping in:
I work on a walk-in basis only, which unfortunately can mean there is a wait sometimes, yes even just to look at jewelry. I have thousands of jewelry options and they are all back in the piercing area. None of the other employees are able to handle or sell jewelry so I apologize if they seem to be of little help. I am the only piercer at Allegiance ink and I attempt to get everyone I possibly can in as quickly as I can while still being as safe and as comforting as possible.
When you walk in out front staff will greet you and generally hand you a form to fill out that will give me some info as to what piercing you are looking for jewelry for or if you seem to be having an issue with your current jewelry. They will usually give you a waiting time frame and you can either wait in the lobby or we will call you within 20 minutes of your turn in line.
